The troops of the invading Army harass Severodonetsk and return bridges to prevent the arrival of reinforcements
Mijailo Podoliak, the adviser to President Volodímir Zelenski, launched a disturbing forecast in the last few hours: “The war may last between two and six more months.” A wide range that underpinned a well-known argument: the fighting will last more or less depending on the capacity of Ukraine’s arsenals and, ultimately, on whether the international community increases its military support. A bad omen, in any case, for a conflict that exceeded one hundred days this week and in which reports from the battlefield have referred for weeks to systematic attacks, destruction and deaths concentrated in the Donbas region.
Russia accumulates the bulk of its troops on that eastern flank and continues to harass Severodontesk, a strategic enclave for its objective of controlling the entire mining account. And here the contradictory messages return. While Ukraine maintains that “it has recovered 20% of the territory” that it had lost in Severodonetsk, Russia assures that its troops with artillery cover continue to gain positions. And at any price. Local authorities accused the invading Army this Saturday of blowing up bridges over the Seversky Donets River to prevent the arrival of military reinforcements and “deliver aid to civilians.”
Suffocating is also the situation in Lysychansk, near Severodonetsk, where 60% of homes have been destroyed and internet, mobile phone and gas connections are cut off, according to its mayor Oleksandr Zaika. War of attrition also over Sloviansk, where 25,000 civilians would still remain, also without basic services and with enemy troops less than ten kilometers away.
“To the slaughterhouse”
All the invader’s charge in the area. Even with air strikes intensifying by the day, according to the British Ministry of Defence. Moscow also claimed to have destroyed with missiles an artillery training center of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Sumy region, in the northeast of the country. And the shooting down of a military transport plane.
A version of robustness, that of the Kremlin, which cracks with messages like the one that was broadcast this Saturday through Telegram, in which a soldier identified as the commander of the 113 Regiment of the Republic of Donetsk assures that the Russian soldiers are being sent “to the slaughterhouse without adequate weapons” and that they suffer from a lack of food and medicine.
