Russia threatened the United Kingdom this Monday (6) with attacks on its military bases inside and outside Ukraine if the country uses British weapons in its operations against Russian territory.
The British ambassador in Moscow, Nigel Casey, “was warned that the response to Ukrainian attacks with British weapons on Russian territory could be on any UK military base or equipment inside or outside the territory of Ukraine,” the British ambassador said in a statement. Russian Foreign Ministry.
Casey was called by the Russian Foreign Ministry following statements by British Foreign Minister David Cameron, in which he stated that Kiev has the right to attack targets in Russia with weapons supplied by London.
“Russia sees Cameron’s words as confirmation of the serious escalation and growing involvement of London in military actions on Kiev’s side,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Moscow conveyed a “strong protest” to the British ambassador, claiming that Cameron’s statements contradicted earlier claims that London-supplied cruise missiles “would in no case be used on Russian territory.”
Casey was warned about the “catastrophic consequences of such hostile measures on the part of London” and was urged to “rebut in the strongest and most unequivocal manner the bellicose and provocative statements of your boss.”
The French ambassador was also summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry this Monday, following statements by French President Emmanuel Macron, who again insisted that he does not rule out, if necessary, sending NATO troops to Ukraine.
“We are seeing a verbal escalation from official representatives. We see this both at the level of heads of state, when it comes to France, and at a more specialized level, when it comes to Great Britain,” said the spokesperson for Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, at a press conference. (With EFE Agency)
