The candidacy of ‘Militància Decidim’ led by the former president of ERC, Oriol Junqueras, and that of ‘Nova Esquerra Nacional’, headed by Xavier Godàs, have been the two with the most votes in the National Congress this Saturday but, at none of them exceed 50% of the supportthey will compete to lead the match in the second round on December 14.
Junqueras and Godàs have achieved 48.3% and 35.3% of the votes, respectively, and have surpassed the ‘Foc Nou’ candidacy of Helena Solà (12.6%), and the two candidates that go to the second round have room to modify the components of their candidacy by 50% while maintaining the candidate for president .
A 81.35% of ERC militants6,533 members, have voted electronically at the party congress to elect its president and a new leadership, out of a total of 8,030 members called to cast their vote.
In absolute numbers, Junqueras has obtained 3,157 votes, Godàs 2,398 and Solà 824. 3.7% of the militants who have voted have done so blankly, which represents a total of 244 members.
The second round will take place in two weeks. Up to seven days before, however, some modifications may be submitted, with the following limitations: both the party presidential candidate and half of the members of the list must be maintained.
In this scenario, the movements that Foc Nou can make take on special relevance, whose proposal has a priori more points of coincidence with that of Nova Esquerra Nacional.
This electoral process, framed in the thirtieth national congress of the party, is celebrated with Republicans in low hours: evicted from the Generalitat, with about 1,500 fewer militants compared to 2019 and the loss of half a million votes compared to that same year.
The reconfiguration of ERC It will be decisive for Catalan and Spanish politicssince he has in one hand the key to the governability of Catalonia and, in the other, seven key votes in Congress to support the Government of Pedro Sánchez.
