Jordan’s King Heads to London for Queen Elizabeth II’s Funeral

Jordan’s King Abdullah II left Amman on Saturday on his way to London to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, which will be held on Monday, according to a statement issued by the Jordanian royal court.
On Monday morning, Queen Elizabeth II’s body will be carried on a procession to Westminster Abbey, where the funeral will be held at 10:00 GMT. The state funeral will be the first since the death of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in 1965.
2,000 people, including hundreds of world leaders and royalty, have been invited to the funeral, including US President Joe Biden, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Japanese Emperor Naruhito and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Queen Elizabeth II will be buried at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in west London, along with her father, King George VI, and her mother and husband, Philip.
The statement from the Jordanian Royal Court added that King Abdullah will travel to New York after his London visit to participate in the meetings of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which begins on the twentieth of this month, and will deliver a speech.
According to the statement, the King will hold a number of bilateral meetings in New York with heads of state and heads of delegations participating in the United Nations meetings, to “discuss the latest regional and international developments and ways to enhance Jordan’s partnership with their countries in various fields.”
