John Wick 4 (or more accurately, John Wick: Chapter 4) is a blockbuster movie and packs a lot of quality action scenes. One of these offers a top view of the protagonist, who as usual makes a clean sweep of his opponents. However, this scene, unlike others, was inspired by a video game. Fans had already pointed the finger at Hotlime Miami, but in reality the director mentioned a different video game: Hong Kong Massacre.
“If you lack creativity, put yourself in handcuffs and then figure out a solution, because then you’ll be doing something you’ve never done before,” Stahelski said. “Because of this, overhead shots have never been very good for us, with lighting or choreography, because they get stale quickly.”
“But I saw a video game, and I mention it, I think it was called “Hong Kong Massacre“, in which they used an overhead shot.” Said the director of John Wick 4 who then went on to say: “At that point I said, ‘Well, if I look from above, we shoot like this and we shoot like this, and the muzzle flashes draw these fantastic lines, and if I get the flicker effect right, it’s like Etch A Sketch [ndr, lavagnette per bambini nelle quali si disegna usando due manopole]. It’s really beautiful.’ It was a different way to increase the pace of the action and maintain the video game mode that John Wick is known for, that of the first person shooter”.
