Paco Jemezcoach of UD Ibiza, was ambitious at a press conference prior to his team’s match against Ponferradina. “We are in a situation where we have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain,” The coach said about the situation of his group, which is getting closer to permanence and is fighting to get into the ‘play-off’ zone for promotion to First Division.
“This is like going to the casino with someone else’s money. You don’t give a damn about losing him. Since it’s not yours… But we have to go play like this because I think it’s the only opportunity that’s going to come our way. If we lose against Ponferradina nothing happens. We are going to move forward and pursue our goal. But if we win there things can change a lot. We have to understand this match as an opportunity, but it shouldn’t escape us”, declared Jémez at a press conference.
The week has been “of good work” and has been focused on “the idea of playing a good game”. Because in Ponferrada “you don’t win with just anything”, since it is a consolidated group in the category that is “made to be up there”. “It is a team that requires you to compete very well and that has more than enough resources to win the match”, declared the coach of the sky-blue team, who made it clear that Ibiza is now “ready to take risks” and go for it all to place in the top six for the remainder of the season. For this reason, he defined the game as “very important” and emphasized the fact that his team is rubbing shoulders with the people at the top and that “he can win anywhere”.
But he also made it clear that they have no obligation to be in the top six, as that was not the club’s main objective when UD Ibiza’s first adventure in LaLiga SmartBank began. That could be something positive, since it represents a “liberation in terms of pressure”, which means “an advantage” with respect to the teams that do have to be in that privileged area because otherwise it would be a “bad” season for them.
Plague of casualties in the celestial
Jémez commented that he has several casualties for the match. The last to fall was defender David Goldar, in the last match against Huesca, and he will not be this Sunday. He joined the already injured Álvaro Jiménez, Javi Pérez, Sergio Castel and Álex Gálvez, who are not traveling to Ponferrada either. “We will try to recover them little by little”, declared the Ibiza coach, who also stressed that “some new face” can be seen in the starting eleven of his team.
