The Sao Paulo suffered but achieved a hard-fought victory this Wednesday at home against Chilean Cobresal 2-0, on the second day of Group B of the Copa Libertadores 2024, with the presence of the Colombian James Rodriguez.
A goal in the 82nd minute by substitute André Silva, who had entered minutes before, and another by Argentine Jonathan Calleri in the 88th minute gave Sao Paulo its first victory in the competition against an ineffective Cobresal.
The locals dominated the entire match at will but suffered from a lack of success in the final meters, against a Cobresal team that had its best man in the Argentine goalkeeper Leandro Requena.
The victory relieves the pressure on Sao Paulo and its coach, Thiago Carpini, after recent poor results and keeps it alive for the lead in the group, while complicating the future for Cobresal, bottom with just one point in two rounds.
James started and had a good presentation. In fact, he scored the first goal of the game, with an extraordinary cross for Calleri, who ended up lowering the ball for Silva's definition.
James was seen with good mobility and precision in his passes, generating good attacking opportunities for Sao Paulo.
In injury time James was replaced and left to applause from the Morumbí crowd.
