The Prosecutor’s Office requests a six-year sentence for the former prime minister for this cause where he bought the silence of minors who attended his parties
The Government of Italy has demanded this Thursday from the former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi a compensation of 10.5 million euros for the “international discredit” that has caused the country and the institutions for his ‘bunga bunga’ party scandal, one day after the Prosecutor’s Office has requested six years in prison for him on the occasion of these episodes within the ‘Rubi ter case’.
The lawyer Gabriella Vanadia, representing the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, explained that the scandal involving Berlusconi has caused “global discredit” for more than a decade, which is how long this entire judicial process has lasted, for which have been parading choristers, dancers and characters of all stripes, who were present at those parties.
Vanadia explained that this sum has taken into account the scope of the corruption that occurred to buy the silence of the witnesses of those parties – in which minors are suspected of participating – and the notoriety of those involved, not only Berlusconi, but also, for example, Senator Mariarosaria Rossi, for whom the Prosecutor’s Office is asking for a year and a half in prison, reports the newspaper ‘La Repubblica’.
The request from the Italian authorities comes a day after the Prosecutor’s Office requested a six-year prison sentence for Berlusconi, as well as the seizure of his assets worth 10.8 million euros in the trial for bribery and manipulation of witnesses of some of the people who attended those “elegant parties” that were held in his lavish villa in Arcore (north).
This process is one of those that make up what is known as the ‘Ruby ter case’, alluding to the nickname by which the young Moroccan woman who attended these festivities was known, Karima el Mahroug, who is believed that along with other women who swarmed these bacchanals was underage. Accused of perjury and documentary falsification, they ask for her five years in prison and the payment of 5 million euros.
This trial – whose verdict is expected in the fall – is the third that Berlusconi has faced after jumping the scandal in 2010 when he was accused of child abuse and prostitution, finally acquitted for lack of evidence. Now it will have to be determined if he bribed the guests to avoid being accused of these crimes.
