ISTANBUL. Two attackers attempted to attack the Palace of Justice in Caglayan, on the European side of Istanbul, and were neutralized, while 6 people, including 3 police officers, were injured in the attack, the Turkish Interior Minister said Ali Yerlikaya, quoted by Hurriyet. The entrance and exits of the court were closed, a large number of police teams and ambulances were sent to the scene. “It has been established that the traitors EY and PB who were neutralized were members of the terrorist organization DHKP/C,” the minister said. “I congratulate our heroic police officers and wish a speedy recovery to our wounded,” he added.
What is DHKP/C
The two attackers, a man and a woman, were two members of the Revolutionary People's Liberation Front (DHKP/C), a far-left group considered a terrorist organization in Turkey, the United States and the European Union. The attack occurred on the day Turkey commemorated the first anniversary of the earthquake that killed thousands of people in the south of the country. The DHKP/C has been dormant for a long time in recent years. In March 2015, the group took a prosecutor from the same court hostage, demanding details about the killing of a teenager by police during anti-government protests the previous year. The group also claimed responsibility for a February 2013 suicide bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Ankara in which a Turkish security guard was killed and four other people were injured
