Israel storms Prime Minister Netanyahu’s residence
Stop the justice reform. Not at the protests. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu he postponed justice reform until the next session of the Knesset, after Passover. This was announced by the Israeli premier after the day of protests that swept the country. The strike literally froze all services, including flights and embassy offices around the world.
As reiterated by Netanyahu in the address to the nation: “It is a matter of national responsibility, to avoid a civil war”. Consequently, the unions have opted for the revocation of the current strike. To add meat to the fire, however, comes the nomination just ratified by the Israeli premier al Likud MP David Amsalem as ‘second minister’ of the Justice Department.
This is not a new anomaly, in fact in the Defense led by Gallant, the far-right leader Bezalel Smotrich – former finance minister – has obtained the same position, with authority over the activities in area C in the occupied Palestinian territories, where Israel has full civil and security control. This is why the protest explodes again outside the residence of Netanyahu, which now results overrun by protesters.
It all started with the tumult that erupted on Sunday evening at the news of the sacking of Defense Minister Yoav Gallantwho had asked for a halt in the reform process despite sharing it in terms of content. One hundred thousand people gathered in protest in front of the Knesset in Jerusalem. In response, the right has decided to hold a counter-demonstration in front of Parliament.
