Are triathletes untouchable gladiators? Ironman Patrick Lange lets you look deep behind the facade. A person with fears appears. And one who overcomes them. How did he do it?
“Becoming Ironman – my way to become a world champion in triathlon” – that’s the title of Patrick Lange’s autobiography, which will be published on Tuesday, February 22nd and delivers more than the title promises. Lange won the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii in 2017 and 2018, but in his book he doesn’t succumb to the temptation to only describe a heroic ascent. He also describes his subsequent descent, including deep crises, anxiety and panic attacks in 2019. “I want to give an insight into how I became who I am,” he says in an interview with the FAS finally get to know them in depth.”
From the front: Lange begins his triathlon career, as usual, on the Olympic short course, with success, but with no prospect of jumping into the top of the world. In 2012 he dared to do the middle distance of 1.9 kilometers swimming, 90 kilometers cycling and 21 kilometers running in Wiesbaden. place seven. In Luxembourg he is second. In 2014 he started at the middle-distance World Championships in Mont-Tremblant in Canada, crashed his bike and had to take a five-week break. Gradually, the few sponsors he has say goodbye until there is only one left. He gives him 3,000 euros – per year.
