A crack occurred in the political blockage that occurred, several months ago, following the phone call that al-Sadr made, a few days ago, with the head of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, despite the entrenched hostility between the two parties, which political parties considered the end of the crisis, and the move towards forming the next government, especially The two parties agreed to present Jaafar al-Sadr as a candidate for prime minister.
Al-Sadr rejects the coordination terms
But the terms of the coordination framework are still not satisfactory for al-Sadr, who suspended all consultations to form a government, as the framework announced his desire to form a unified bloc with al-Sadr, and to present it to Parliament as the largest parliamentary bloc, leaving his tripartite alliance, with the alliance of sovereignty, led by Khamis al-Khanjar, and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, led by Massoud Barzani.
But al-Sadr refused to leave the “triple alliance” with which he concluded previous understandings, which led to the selection of the current Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, as these parties agreed to present their candidates to the highest positions in the country (the presidency, the government, and parliament).
Al-Sadr also took another step towards establishing a single bloc for the tripartite alliance, entitled “Save a Homeland”, and it was scheduled to be announced last Saturday, but he postponed it.
What increased the differences between the two parties is the shy political position on the Iranian attack on Erbil, where the forces of the coordination framework became identified with this attack, and did not condemn it, or issue a clear position towards it, but most of the forces that make up the framework forces resorted to justifying the attack And repeating the Iranian narrative, with the presence of secret Israeli bases in the city.
In turn, a member of the Sadrist movement said that “consultations about the candidate to form the government stopped between Al-Sadr and the forces of the coordination framework, due to the position on the Iranian attack, as Al-Sadr saw that the coordination position is not consistent with Iraqi sovereignty, and is not compatible with the national interest, The attack must be clearly condemned, and action must be taken to prevent its recurrence.”
The member, who requested anonymity, added to “Sky News Arabia” that “Al-Sadr is still waiting to modify the position of the framework and turn towards the national interest, in addition to not leaving the tripartite alliance, as we have given a word and a pledge to the alliances of sovereignty and the Democratic Party.”
He pointed out that “the possibility of reaching understandings still exists, and there are mediations conducted by Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, as well as other leaders, between the current and the framework.”
Justify the Iranian attack
The forces loyal to Iran set out to justify the attack, adopting the Iranian view that what was targeted were Israeli installations in the region, and instead of calling for these forces to take a firm stance towards Iranian transgression, their statements focused on the necessity of opening an investigation into the fact that there are Israeli centers in the area. Kurdstan Iraq.
And political analyst Wael al-Shammari believes that “the desire of the coordinating framework forces, to enter into a unified bloc with al-Sadr, may cancel all the understandings that were concluded during the past two days, and this is due to the framework forces, which do not want a Sunni or Kurdish opinion on the issue of choosing the prime minister, which is What al-Sadr does not see, which stresses the need for everyone to participate in consensus on the person of the prime minister.
Al-Shammari added, in a statement to “Sky News Arabia”, that “the Iraqi situation has begun to enter into confusion as a result of political differences, in light of the successive crises and the Russian-Ukrainian war, which makes the necessity of reaching an agreement an inevitable necessity, to form a service government.”
He pointed out that “the current’s agreement with the forces of the coordination framework depends on showing flexibility on both sides, and amending the position of the framework forces regarding Iranian aggression against Iraq, and in the event of their rejection, this initial agreement may collapse quickly.”
