“Big problems cannot always be addressed from the classroom or the laboratory; international collaboration is required”: Arturo Reyes Sandoval
As part of the Call for International and National Academic Mobilityfor the period August-December 2022, the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) will send 145 students of educational excellence to universities in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
The polytechnic students will carry out academic activities at the Metropolitan Technological Institute and the University of La Sabana, in Colombia, as well as at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain; the Politecnico Di Milano, in Italy, and Chandigarh University of India.
The academic units with the greatest participation in this process are the Interdisciplinary Professional Engineering Unit, Campus Guanajuato (Upiig); Interdisciplinary Professional Unit in Engineering and Advanced Technologies (Upiita); Superior School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (Esime), Azcapotzalco; Higher School of Computing (Escom), and the Higher School of Engineering and Architecture (ESIA) Tecamachalco.
Regarding national mobility, the Polytechnic will send 79 students from the Superior School of Commerce and Administration (ESCA), Santo Tomás Unit, to institutions in Baja California, Jalisco, Quintana Roo and Sinaloa; Higher School of Tourism (EST); ESIA) Tecamachalco, and Higher School of Commerce and Administration, (ESCA), Tepepan.
During the farewell of the young people, the general director of the IPNArturo Reyes Sandoval, affirmed that by strengthening this internationalization process, the quality and prestige of the institution is promoted throughout the world.
“You are going to tear down walls and preconceived ideas that you sometimes have about us in other countries, where you are going to recognize the academic excellence of the polytechnics and the human quality of Mexicans.”
Noting that these young people represent the first post-pandemic generation to participate in face-to-face mobility actions, Reyes Sandoval assured that internationalization actions are an obligatory measure in this context, since they have the experience that “it is not always possible to attend to the big problems from the classroom or the laboratory; international collaboration is required.
He considered that this process of academic mobility will test the knowledge and skills of the students, as well as their ability to adapt and persevere, for which he urged them to trust in the excellent training of the IPN.
“They are our ambassadors to the world, they will show the best that the Polytechnic has and they will give all their effort to raise the name of this house of studies and that of Mexico,” he concluded.
The Secretary for Innovation and Social Integration, Ricardo Monterrubio López, highlighted the efforts of Reyes Sandoval to materialize the internationalization of the IPN.
“It is a job that he has personally done in the negotiation with different universities and embassies throughout the world. We are convinced that we send our best students to represent as ambassadors to the IPN and to Mexico,” he commented.
Fiorella Podda Becerra, student of the Architectural Engineering career at the ESIA Unit Tecamachalco, who will go to the Politecnico Di Milano in Italy, said that today they say goodbye to her institution, her family and her country to achieve a dream.
