Minister will be responsible for scheduling the trials from August; will replace Nunes Marques
the minister André Mendonça will assume in August the presidency of the 2nd Panel of the STF (Federal Court of Justice). He will be at the head of the collegiate for 1 year, replacing the minister Nunes Marques.
The 2nd Class is made up of 5 ministers. In addition to Nunes and Mendonça, ministers Ricardo Lewandowski, Edson Fachin and Gilmar Mendes also participate.
The ministers formalized this Tuesday (June 28, 2022) the choice of Mendonça. The President of the Class will always be the oldest member of the Court who has never held the position. As all the others have already exercised, the task falls to the newest member of the STF.
The replacement must be carried out after the Court’s mid-year recess, in which the ministers have collective vacations. Thus, Mendonça will be responsible for scheduling the judgments of the 2nd Panel as of August.
Mendonça took office in the Supreme Court in December 2021. The minister was the 2nd nominee by the president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to the Court. The other was Nunes Marques.
Leaving the presidency of the Class, Nunes presented a report on his management. There were 20 ordinary sessions in the period, with the judgment of 53 cases. In the virtual format, 3,859 cases were judged.
