Et was autumn 2008 when Sergey Brin, the inventor of the Google search engine, surprised the world with a very personal message. In a blog entry at the time, Brin wrote that a genetic test revealed a mutation in him. She suggests that there is an increased likelihood that he will develop Parkinson’s disease in his lifetime. The entry ended with a phrase that later became famous: “I have no intention of dying.”
For the Google inventor and his co-founder Larry Page, this was the reason to deal with a topic that is more remote than almost any other from the original field of activity of successful Internet companies. While the Internet is mostly about doing certain things even faster than in the analogue world, such as searching for information or doing shopping, Brin and Page were now concerned with slowing down. Among other things, they made it their goal to stop the aging process. Her hope: In this way, people could possibly be saved from the unpleasant side effects of old age (more ailments, more hospital stays).
