Juarez City.- The state government invites you to the Omáwari Festival, Meeting of Sister Nations in its 2024 edition, this Saturday, August 10, starting at 5:30 p.m., in the Central Poniente Park.
The inter-ethnic event will feature poetry, music, dance, and the sale of crafts and food by members of the indigenous communities. It will begin with the inauguration and blessing of the plaza by the participating communities.
Later, there will be a presentation of the poem “Abuelita” by Luz Elizabeth Severiano, originally from the Chinanteco people; in addition, there will be an interactive exhibition called “Making a clay pot” by the Mazahua people.
At 7:00 p.m., there will be a concert by the Rarámuri women’s duo Rojisópoli, and the celebration will continue with the presentation of the dance “Juchari Kuinchekua Purépecha”, performed by dancers from that community.
In addition, a community from Tijuana, Baja California, will perform the dance “De los diablitos”, a tradition originating from the Ñuu Savi Mixteca Baja people of Oaxaca, ending with the dance “Eza´r”, from the Chichimeca people, performed by the community of San Luis de la Paz, Guanajuato.
Throughout the day, starting at 10:00 a.m., there will be food and artisanal products from indigenous communities for sale.
This festival is a space dedicated to indigenous community actors, speakers of their mother tongue and participants in the festive ritual cycles of the communities to which they belong. It avoids folklorization and, therefore, does not accept the participation of folkloric groups or professional groups from schools or companies.
