Instagram may soon introduce a new feature that would allow users to share Instagram comments directly to Threads, Meta’s microblogging platform. This indiscretion comes from insider Alessandro Paluzzi, known for his analysis and early discoveries on Meta’s app innovations. Paluzzi shared an image showing a new drop-down menu in Instagram’s comments section. The menu would offer the option to share a comment only on Instagram or “also on Threads.”

The integration adds to a series of recent moves by Meta to connect Threads to its other platforms. For example, users can already see Threads posts on Instagram or Facebook (with the option to turn this off). Threads also doesn’t yet have a direct messaging system, but users can send and receive messages through Instagram. Meta’s most ambitious goal, however, is to gradually integrate Threads with the fediverse, a broader system that will allow all such platforms to integrate into one. The company has already made some moves in this direction, such as the ability to see replies from the fediverse under your own posts and, more recently, other users’ posts as well.
