With the sole objective of all Mexicans exercising their vote on June 2, when the new President of Mexico, deputies, senators, governors, mayors and municipal presidents will be elected, the INE has made a new decision.
Now, the National Electoral Institute (INE) reported that it extended the validity of voter credentials that expired in 2023 and that were not renewed this year.
That is to say, now, if your voter ID card expired in 2023, don’t worry! Because despite the expiration, the INE decided to extend its validity specifically for election day this June 2.
Expired credentials valid for June 2
In a recent ordinary session of the General Council of the INE, a fundamental agreement related to expired credentials was approved. Those whose expiration date is December 31, 2023, will be considered valid to exercise the right to vote on the day of the ordinary elections.
The decision of the INE benefits a total of three million 861 thousand 567 people whose voting credentials expired in 2023. The main objective of this measure is to guarantee that all citizens can exercise their right to vote without setbacks on election day.
However, it is crucial to remember that the extension of the validity of expired credentials applies only to election day. After this event, these credentials will no longer be valid as official identification documents.
Remember to exercise your right to vote
Given this decision by the INE, it is important to remember the importance of exercising your right to vote on June 2, the day on which the largest electoral process in history will take place.
According to the INE, at the polls 20 thousand 708 will be renewed popularly elected positions throughout the country, including the Presidency of Mexico.
