The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, said in the message sent to the National Congress that the industrial Gross Domestic Product (GDP) should grow in 2024 more than in 2023. He also declared that investment will be boosted by financing from public banks and regulatory changes.
“The investment will also be driven by the resumption of financing from public banks and by regulatory changes that updated the legal framework for common concessions and public-private partnerships, in order to incorporate new solutions and alternatives applicable to the contracting and management of infrastructure projects” , stated the president in the document.
He also said that the services sector should have, this year, a performance similar to that of 2023. “For the services sector, the expectation is for growth similar to that of 2023. Activities that are less sensitive to the economic cycle, such as transport and financial activities, should contribute less to the expansion of the sector in the year. But activities more dependent on credit tend to benefit from lower interest rates, lower family defaults and lower inflation, as well as a higher real minimum wage and favorable labor market conditions.”
The text sent by the president to Congress also mentions inflation. “The disinflation process should continue, throughout 2024, guided by the continued deceleration of underlying components, but this time also by the deceleration of monitored prices. Large-scale climate changes due to El Niño and disruptions in supply chains, as a result of geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, are the main risks for this scenario.”
