He recalled that the Russian region borders on three countries, two of which are members of the North Atlantic Alliance. “We have never spoken extensively about this, but there have been attempts to illegally cross the border with military drones and other aircraft,” he said. Vedernikov added that such “peaceful interaction” escalated after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. In addition, he also mentioned the installation of cell towers with high-capacity repeaters in the border areas.
NATO has stepped up near Russian borders
Departures of planes and drones of NATO countries spying on Russia have become more frequent. At the same time, these aircraft appeared near the conflict zone in Ukraine, as well as in the region of the Kaliningrad region and northern Russian territories before.

In particular, on November 23, an American strategic reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle was discovered near Crimea a few hours before the drone attack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Sevastopol. He left the area about two hours before the first reports of the operation of air defense systems in the republic.
However, according to the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, NATO does not pose a threat to Russia, does not seek conflict with it, and is not going to get involved in hostilities in Ukraine.
Ladies and gentlemen, NATO is a defensive alliance. Make no mistake: we will not be dragged into Putin’s chosen war
At the same time, he promised, the North Atlantic Alliance will continue to help Kyiv in defensive matters.
Passport war
Vedernikov also spoke about the issuance by the EU countries of their passports in the Russian region. According to him, a mass purposeful issuance of EU passports to residents of border areas is underway. In particular, he clarified, we are talking about the Pechora region, which borders on Estonia and Latvia in the west. “We all understand well why this is being done in the border areas,” he said.
On the territory of the Pechora region is one of the oldest Russian cities Izborsk. Since 1920, in accordance with the Tartu Peace Treaty, the territory of the region became part of the Republic of Estonia. The Pechora region was formed by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR of January 16, 1945 and annexed to the territory of the RSFSR
A few days earlier, the European Parliament (EP) approved an agreement with the EU Council on the non-recognition of international passports issued in the former Donetsk and Luhansk people’s regions, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, as well as in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. At the same time, people arriving in the EU to leave conflict zones can be accepted on humanitarian grounds, the parliament clarified.
The European Union also condemned Moscow’s decision to simplify the issuance of Russian passports to Ukrainian citizens. The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, promised that the EU would never recognize documents issued to Ukrainians by the Russian side.
