The World Cup will loom behind the corona curtain in early April.
Helsinki Thanks to its high-quality free program, the figure skating club Rockettes won the international Marie Lundmark Trophy on Sunday in Turku. Rockettes scored 145.37 points in their free program, and the team’s total score was 220.95.
After a short program on the opening day, Team Unique, who was in the lead, had to settle for second place with 214.51 points due to the crash of the free program pair. Third went to Team Russia Junost, who collected 206.01 points.
“Absolutely awesome performance from the team,” rejoiced the Rockettes head coach Kaisa Arrateig by phone to BTI.
“Great and amazing performance from skaters,” the team was once again full of diamonds.
Arrateig monitored his team’s performance due to his flu symptoms in his hotel room.
“Korona has been fighting for a couple of times. Now it looks bad that I’m the next patient, ”Arreteig lamented.
Captain of the Rockettes Nona Vihma there was one smile after the race.
“There was a little excitement in the air before skating, but we got a good race feel. The basic work is in order, and you can skate in an empty auditorium, ”Vihma said.
Both the top teams plan to race to France in a couple of weeks. In France, teams would be allowed to face strong international opposition.
Arrateig believes the Rockettes will find one more gear ahead of the other spring events.
“If we get to train together without practice breaks, we can still improve our performance. Hopefully the World Championships in early April will take place this year, so we can start brightening our World Championship bronze medal three years ago, ”Arrateig glowed.
Team Unique head coach Mirjami Penttinen was not disappointed, even though there was no victory.
“It’s a good race, but a couple of crashes in the free program taxed points,” Penttinen said.
Team captain Tuuli Mäkinen he thinks just a tough fight will give a kick to the next race.
“Our performance will definitely improve before the World Cup,” Mäkinen promised.
