Ayman Hamza, spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, told Sky News Arabia that a special committee had been formed to study and develop a plan to expand green hydrogen economy projects, especially in the Suez Canal Authority economic zone.
He explained that this committee was formed by a decision of the Prime Minister and includes in its membership Dr. Muhammad Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and representatives of various competent authorities.
He stressed that when this strategy is completed, it will be presented to the Council of Ministers for approval, announcement, and implementation.
He also revealed the existence of another ministerial committee led by the Supreme Council of Energy, whose goal is to develop a strategy for expanding renewable energy projects and to set a plan for that until 2035.
It should be noted that the Egyptian Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, held a meeting last week, in the presence of the Ministers of Electricity and Planning, and the Chairman of the General Authority for the Economic Zone of the Suez Canal, to discuss efforts to attract “green hydrogen” projects to the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
During the meeting, Madbouly stressed that many international companies announced their desire to implement green hydrogen projects in Egypt, pointing out that there are promising opportunities to implement such projects, especially as they come at the top of the government’s interests during this stage.
Madbouly also said during a meeting with John Kerry, the US presidential envoy for climate, and his accompanying delegation during his visit to Egypt a few days ago, that there is special interest in green hydrogen projects, and that the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy is working on developing an integrated strategy for green hydrogen in Egypt in cooperation with one of the parties. International.
He revealed the study of a number of green hydrogen projects submitted to the economic zone of the Suez Canal, and these projects were initially presented to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who directed to start studying these offers in preparation for signing memoranda of understanding regarding them, with the possibility of the state entering as a partner in these projects.
For his part, Engineer Yahya Zaki, head of the General Authority for the Economic Zone of the Suez Canal, revealed some green hydrogen projects submitted to the economic zone, including green ammonia, which is located inside and outside the scope of the economic zone, in terms of generating clean energy, linking with the national electricity grid, and establishing a desalination plant. Sea water, constructing an electricity sub-station, constructing an industrial complex and a service corridor from it to the port, constructing a storage tank in ports, constructing a handling station in ports, and others.
