The Pittsburgh Penguins credit reporter couldn’t understand the $6.4 million contract given to Kasperi Kapanen.
Ice hockey player Kasperi Kapanen has signed a two-year contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the club says on their website.
25-year-old Kapanen has represented Pittsburgh for the previous two seasons. He earns $3.2 million per season with his new contract. The amount is the same that he has also earned in the previous three-year contract.
Pittsburgh-based reporter for the prestigious The Athletic Josh Yohe blasted the deal on Twitter.
“6.4 million from two seasons is unfathomable when you think about the unseen performances of last season. I would have spent that money on something else. A very special solution,” Yohe wrote.
Kapanen moved to Pittsburgh in 2020 in a trade from Toronto. He is originally Pittsburgh’s 2014 reservation.
Last season, Kapanen played 79 matches in the regular season, scoring a modest 11 goals and 21 assists. In the playoffs, he had three assists in the seven games he played.
In his NHL career, Kapanen has played 321 games with an output of 63+89=152. He has accumulated 38 playoff games and 5+8=13 in them.
