Ice hockey | Duunarisenterter Otto Paajanen about HIFK’s season: “The game has become freer, and we don’t try to play in such a formulaic way”

An important fourth goal interrupted Tappara Kiri in a sold-out ice rink.

Helsinki IFK to take a 4–1 victory over Tappara in the Ice Hockey League, there was a crowd of 8,200 spectators in the ice hockey league.

IFK’s Danube center Otto Paajanen nailed the match for good with his 4–1 hit. Before that, Paajanen had time to confuse his team in the second goal, which was first marked for him, but was corrected Roni Hirvone.

Paajanen rushed to the goal with such force that after Hirvonen’s shot the puck seemed to move from the one next to it From Geoff Platt direction.

Hirvonen became a two-goal player by starting the home team’s tackles. The third shot Kristian Vesalainenwho took advantage of his opportunity.

“It was a tight game, as you might expect. You didn’t get anything for free,” Paajanen said.

“A typical game of ours, where the center was strictly defended.”

HIFK lost the first two meetings of the season against Tappara.

Paajanen according to those games, “we didn’t really get a kick out of it”.

The parts changed, but the part was there that Tappara played on Friday and IFK played. That could also have an effect when the match started exceptionally early in the afternoon.

Tappara’s fans were supposed to continue on the cruise after the match, but the cruise was cancelled. Fortunately, not a match, IFK fans might think.

In the third set, Tappara started a chase, which repeatedly broke into the ice. Some blows were well-hit, others soft.

Tappara’s head coach Jussi Tapola got a team penalty for trying to talk Walter Merelän from the double. The tone of voice was inappropriate, and a couple of word choices as well.

Emotions spilled out, but that’s how it should be in these games.

In autumn IFK nailed it, but now it looked and has looked different for a long time.

“Probably relaxation”, Paajanen gave as the first reason. “The guys have gained self-confidence and successes. The game has freed up, and we don’t try to play in such a formulaic way.”

“That game would have started from the beginning of the season if we had scored a few goals. Now we are on a good path, but there is still a long way to go.”

Both teams took nine two-minute timeouts. It’s too much if we look towards spring. Now it proceeded when the whistles of the referees sounded unevenly for both.

HIFK now has 15 matches in a row with at least one point.

Paajanen said that he has not looked at the standings so closely, but believed that there are still opportunities to advance to the top six. Through the so-called pity players, the playoff picture starts to feel set in stone.

In comparison to the autumn IFK, Paajanen is cautious. The team is not completely different, but something essential has happened.

“Now we get a result, and it releases the feeling and the game. We weren’t exactly cold bastards then, even in the fall. We just didn’t get the bounces we needed.”

“It’s also a big deal that superiority produces. Didn’t we get two goals today too with superiority”, Paajanen asked.

True. The improvement of superiority is one big factor. In the fall, HIFK was among the weakest in the league in that area.
