US airlines canceled nearly 900 flights on Saturday, the second day in a row of mass cancellations, as an increase in infections with the mutated Omicron strain of the Corona virus has turned away some pilots and other crew members.
According to a constantly updated count on flight-tracking website FlightAware.com, more than 880 domestic and international flights were canceled on Christmas Day, up from 690 on Christmas Eve, while nearly 800 other flights were delayed.
A United Airlines spokesperson said the airline has canceled 230 flights.
The site data showed that Delta Air Lines canceled 292 flights as of 16:23 GMT, while an American Airlines spokesman said it had to cancel 90 domestic flights.
