The Zimbabwean Ministry of Health said on Saturday that the measles outbreak has killed 685 patients so far.
This number is more than four times the number of cases recorded nearly two weeks ago, despite the ongoing nationwide vaccination program.
“Zimbabwe has 6,034 confirmed cases… including 685 deaths,” the ministry said in a post on Twitter. She added that she recorded 191 new cases and 37 deaths in one day, which is the first of September.
Last month, Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said that most of the infections were recorded among children aged between six months and 15 years, who belonged to groups that refuse to be vaccinated.
Mutsvangwa added that the government is communicating with the leaders of the leaders of these groups in order to obtain their support.
