HS Helsinki The confusing crowdfunding pattern of the Meilahtel café continued: a new collection was secretly released online, but this time the café can really be saved

An attempt is made to continue the operation of Bon Temps in Meilahti with the help of a new support campaign. Now the cafe believes everything is in order, as the previous campaign crashed in a confusing situation.

Popular The Bon Temps café in Meilahti, Helsinki, has been at the center of a crowdfunding campaign that has become complicated during the early part of the year.

In January, the café set up a fundraiser through the patronage of the crowdfunding site so that it could continue to operate despite the adversities brought about by the Corona era. It raised about 50,000 euros.

HS has been following the steps of the campaign.

Both the entrepreneur of the café-restaurant and the patron had time to rejoice in avoiding bankruptcy. The joy came to a halt, as the company had in fact already been declared bankrupt.

The patron said he would return the money raised through the crowdfunding campaign to their donors.

Cafe to save was unexpectedly opened a new crowdfunding campaign on Wednesday. The patronage website states that the campaign does not use the café’s official name at all and is not advertised on the cafe’s social media channels because the bankruptcy estate is not related to the collection.

“This was an instruction given by the bankruptcy estate,” a representative of the Patron Service Pauliina Seppälä tells HS.

According to Seppälä, the only thing that went wrong in the previous crowdfunding campaign was that it used the name of a café, even though the company was owned by a bankruptcy estate.

Campaign was done on a quick schedule because the time to pay off the company’s debts and cancel the bankruptcy was only three days.

“If there had been more time for collection, the previous money probably would not have had to be returned to the supporters,” says Seppälä.

The patronage service feared that the bankruptcy would materialize in spite of everything and the financiers would not receive the promised compensation. The bankruptcy estate was also frightened.

According to Seppälä, the legal issues have been carefully considered this time.

“It’s still possible and very likely that once the creditors have got their money and an agreement is reached, the cafe can continue to operate,” he says.
