HS Helsinki Terrible hum and exhaust fumes disturb residents’ night’s sleep in the Helsinki area

In the past, disturbing hum was heard in Ruskeasuo for only a short time at a time. Now it penetrates even from closed windows into the houses, and is accompanied by an unpleasant odor.

It started last week: a constant low-frequency rumble that doesn’t leave Ruskeasuo residents alone at night.

“It’s been heard all along,” says a resident of the area Mirva Koskinen.

The sound meanders even from closed windows inside. The noise is accompanied by an unpleasant exhaust plague.

What is it about?

Already for years Ruskeasuo has had the same noise for a few hours at a time a few days a week. Residents are used to the noise as it is always over.

The sounds have seemed to come from Orton on Tenholantie. Orton Private Hospital is a tenant of a property owned by eQ Social Real Estate. The property is hosted by the real estate consulting company Newsec.

However, something has changed. Noise and smell do not stop.

Living more than a hundred meters from the Orton building Kirsi Tiusanen says she doesn’t want to fall asleep at night.

“The earplugs didn’t block the sound because it’s so low.”

Melua worse, however, Tiusanen considers the smell of exhaust gas.

“The gases will stay in this area. They cannot be escaped. ”

It is annoying for Tiusa that no announcement was made to the residents of the area about the start of the uproar. Even Tiusan could have stayed in the cottage if he had known about the noise and odor nuisances.

The voices have also been taken into account in Ruskeasuo’s Facebook group. According to group members, voices resonate far from the hospital.

Responsible there is a backup power plant for noise.

Newsec Real Estate Manager Olli-Pekka Karin according to the hospital property is currently undergoing repairs related to the safety of the property. In connection with the repair, the power and backup power centers will be renewed.

“The quietest time possible to complete the work has been chosen as the time for the repairs,” says Kari.

During the renovation work, the property will have to generate electricity with backup power.

“We apologize for the inconvenience,” says Kari.

Helsinki head of the city’s housing health team Päivi Vepsäläinen recognizes the case, as the city has received a notice of the constant uproar in Ruskeasuo earlier this week.

“The case has been referred to the inspector,” says Vepsäläinen.

“The case has been referred to the inspector.”

When the city receives contact about a case like Ruskeasuo, the city first tries to contact the property owner.

If the matter does not proceed with the property owner, the city will conduct noise measurements in the area.

“In terms of housing health, we look at the situation inside the apartment. The action limits for noise are 35 decibels during the day and 30 decibels at night, ”says Vepsäläinen.

If necessary in addition to noise, the city intervenes in the exhaust.

Should Ruskeasuo residents have been informed about noise and odor nuisance in advance?

“The city does not actually have any instructions that residents should be notified in advance, unless there are temporary activities that produce special noise,” says Päivi Vepsäläinen.

According to Newsec, the repairs should be completed tomorrow, Thursday.
