With difficulty, but with a smile, the leader of the abstinence camp, vicar Pentti Perttula, was able to protect Pitkä-Jussi’s slipper from the clutches of curious boys at the evening campfire. The shoe was an important part of the evening’s story.

Every boy’s abstinence association’s big camp in Partaharju wants to take the boys to sports, all that familiar camp life, but also healthy lifestyles during the week. – –

“I think abstinence camp should just be a job title, when we so sensitively associate that expression with a judgmental, narrow-minded attitude,” Luoto pointed out and at the same time urged one group of boys to get up on the beach.

Half an hour later, vicar Pentti Perttula continued on the same topic. Over a cup of tea, he said that it was finally time for the entire temperance movement to give up fanatically pushing its cause and show in action what it is aiming for.
