After several delays, today is finally launching Dying Light 2 for the current and past generation of consoles. To who Atomix you can already find our review on its version of Playstation 5, but how does it run on the other platforms, including PS4 and Xbox One? Well, the most recent technical analysis of Digital Foundry gives us a good view.
In PS5 and Xbox Series X|S the game has three different performance options: Performance, Quality and Quality Ray Tracing. The first one offers us a 1080p experience at 60FPS, while the second one increases the resolution to 4K with 30FPS, and the last one adds ray tracing at 30FPS. These three modes work quite well, although in Performance there is more pop-in of textures and objects than in the other modes.
Dying Light 2 suffers in its last generation versions, since in the base models of PS4 and Xbox One, the game stays at 1080p and 30FPS without the ability to adjust these settings. Things look a little better PS4 Pro and Xbox OneX, but it’s still a pretty watered-down experience. The good news is that we are not facing a disaster level Cyberpunk 2077, and in theory, you shouldn’t have many problems if you decide to play it on one of these consoles.
Publisher’s note: On PS5 the truth is that I have not had as many technical fights as I anticipated, and apparently, the day one patch solves many of them. Fortunately, the final product turned out to be more stable than we expected on last generation consoles, which is always great news.
