The birth of her first child, then the appearance of the first symptoms: Simona Izzo and the disease that accompanied her for thirty years
A well-known face, a recognizable personality and a smile that, despite everything, never went out. Simona Izzo, actress, former competitor of the Big Brother Vip and wife of Ricky Tognazzi, in a recent interview she told with open heart the difficulties she experienced during a rare disease that struck her when she was young and that has accompanied her over the years.
If you had to choose one word to describe what Simona Izzo’s life was like, that would surely be it tenacity, or determination.
In a recent interview, released to the magazine Ok Wellness and Health, the actress and former contestant of Big Brother Vip had the opportunity to retrace her life and career, both characterized by a illness that hit her right away after the birth of her first child.
‘My hair hurts,’ says the dissatisfied bourgeois Giuliana, played by Monica Vitti, in Red Desert by Michelangelo Antonioni. That line in the film perfectly sums up the ferocious migraine attacks I’ve suffered from for thirty years. An intense pain, of muscle-tension origin, similar to a steel clamp that compressed the head and made the scalp hypersensitive to any stimulus.
What did Simona Izzo suffer from
I couldn’t even comb my hair. I felt like I was living with an invisible helmet that pulled my hair, causing me painful twinges. It all started at 23, after the birth of my son Francesco and after my husband Antonello, as a student who strummed the guitar, as I had known him, began to be hit by overwhelming success.
Everyone reacts in their own way. And I had my first migraine crisis. I divorced in 1978, aged just 28, but the headache didn’t let go. With his cyclical attacks, he had now become a life partner. It came and went, marking my mood which was extremely fluctuating, to the point that I was diagnosed with subclinical bipolar syndrome. Big words. But how can you not slip into depression when you can’t even run your fingers through your hair and the pain doesn’t give you a break?
Love with Ricky Tognazzi
Simona’s life then took one different fold, better, when Ricky Tognazzi, his greatest love, entered his life.
The improvement in my health is also due to Ricky, whom I met at 33 and then married at 40. He has always been close to me, even during the notorious attacks, and has alleviated not only the headache, but above all the anxiety that accompanied it. His sensitivity and ability to endure have cured me more than drugs and I realized that nothing better than the hand of a partner looking for yours before bed can be a balm to physical and existential pain.
