The Bautzen District Administrator Udo Witschas shares a Christmas message. It is mainly about refugees who “do not know our culture”.
Dresden – The Bautzen district administrator has received sharp criticism for a Christmas message. Of the CDUPolitician Udo Witschas shared a video on Facebook on Tuesday (December 20), in which he commented, among other things, on the accommodation of refugees. In the district, refugees are therefore accommodated neither in gyms nor in decentralized accommodation. Apartments are also not intended for them, reports fr.de.
“It is not our intention to let sports, whether school or leisure sports, bleed for this asylum policy,” Witschas said in the video. Likewise, the Bautzen State Office does not want refugees to be housed in “apartment buildings and detached apartments”. His statements came “deliberately before Christmas”.
According to Witschas, these people “do not know our culture” and “our regulations”. If the district office accommodated the people there, they would accept the “endangerment of social peace”. The refugees would have to “first learn to get along with our lives and our society”. There is no alternative yet. The district council rejected talks for central accommodation for the refugees in Hoyerswerda. Witschas ended his message with the words: “I wish you a happy and blessed Christmas”.
Bautzen: Witscha’s statements caused massive criticism
Witscha’s statements immediately caused severe criticism. “A CDU member (C allegedly stands for Christian) explains to the citizens why people seeking protection are not allowed into an empty apartment and then wishes ‘merry Christmas’,” tweeted Thuringia’s Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left). “He didn’t understand the Christmas story! Really not!”
Martin Dulig (SPD), Saxony’s Economics Minister, spoke of an “enormous event” on Wednesday. CDU boss Friedrich Merz in his own words, he distances himself from all right-wing extremist activities. “I expect the same here in Saxony,” emphasized Dulig. Dulig also pointed out that the state government is working on a package of measures to make the federal state more attractive for immigration. “Hate speech disguised as a Christmas speech is the opposite of what we need.”
CDU party colleagues and the Saxon Minister of Science Sebastian Gemkow also criticized and agreed with Dulig’s statements. One is in the process of creating a climate that makes Saxony attractive for people from other countries. According to Gemkow, Witscha’s statements are detrimental to this.
Witschas known for his closeness to right-wing parties
It is not the first time that Udo Witschas has attracted national attention with approaches to the right. The CDU politician met the then NPD official Marco Wruck in Bautzen in 2016. He is said to have asked the neo-Nazi scene for help with a Libyan refugee who is said to be violent. “Maybe you have background information or research options there?” Witschas asked the neo-Nazi via a chat program. Today, Wruck is involved with the right-wing extremist party “Dierechte”.
At the beginning of the year, Witscha’s criticism hailed when he appeared at a Corona demonstration in Bautzen. At that time he announced that he would not enforce compulsory vaccination in care in Bautzen – that is, to violate applicable law. There was anger from his own party, but applause from the AfD and the party “Freie Sachsen”. (spr/dpa)
