February was inferior from IFK, but the light is shedding again.
Helsinki IFK completely lost their game at the end of January, but seems to be getting some comfort as winter turns to March.
IFK covered the tennis reading 6–1 in the SaiPa Ice Hockey League in Lappeenranta, when the guests were badly behind.
Home team the beginning was overwhelming. After playing less than a minute, IFK took the lead 2.12 minutes into the match Eetu Koivistoisen and Alex Broadhurstin with paints.
The pace leveled off during the first batch and in the second batch until Reid Gardiner pulled in front of the goal 3-0 and the defender Jordan Schmaltz at the end of a long rotation 4–0.
By the end of January, HIFK had played ten matches and lost as many as eight of them in the SaiPa match. There were 30 points on the standings and IFK took just seven of them.
The league’s top spot momentarily shifted to seven instead, until the re-introduced Score Average saved the Stadists back into the top six.
The results during the Olympics were shamefully poor, although the injuries haunted the team somewhat.
As the composition of the jokers spread around, IFK also got its share. Olympic winner Iiro Pakarinen and World Cup silver medalist Teemu Turunen found their place in Stad’s red shirts.
Both are excellent confirmations for IFK and their return is a continuation of the old one, when Pakarinen played in the club in 2012–2014 and Turunen a little later in 2019–2020.
At the end of the match, Pakarinen was able to rivet the goal and seal the final numbers of the match.
IFK kidnapped scorer Reid Gardiner, 26, from JYP and the acquisition became a hit. Gardiner will continue at Stad from where he left off in Jyväskylä. Now came the second goal in the third IFK game and the total number of hits is 20.
IFK made their four chains look scary hard, even though quite a number of players were missing from the lineup.
The three top teams, led by Koivistoinen, Broadhurst and Paananen, would be eligible as such for any other league club. If these players don’t stretch far into hockey in the sign of hockey, you might want to start bugging with a magnifying glass.
