The North Atlantic cyclone “Ida”, which will come to Central Russia on Thursday evening, will bring up to 8-13 mm of precipitation, according to site weather center “Phobos” on January 20.
Most of the snow is expected to fall over the next two days. On Friday, up to 5-7 mm of precipitation may fall in Moscow, which is close to the maximum of 1986 and 2013, when forecasters recorded 7.5 mm.
“The snow cover will grow by 2-3 cm, the wind will increase, but not to storm levels, a weak snowstorm will swirl with a deterioration in visibility up to several kilometers. The air temperature during the day will be -1…-4 degrees,” the report says.
On Saturday, snow will fall about 3-5 mm. At the same time, snowdrifts will grow up to 41 cm, exceeding the norm by 1.5 times, writes “Moscow 24“. The air temperature will fluctuate from 2 to 7 degrees below zero.
Forecasters also noted that the expected snowfalls will contribute to the deterioration of the traffic situation in the city and will add work to utilities, reports NSN.
Earlier in the day, Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, said that next week in Moscow the air temperature would drop below normal for the first time in a month. According to him, on Tuesday night the temperature will vary around 10-15 degrees below zero.
