Dhe Spanish royal couple, King Felipe VI. and Queen Letizia, wants to open the Frankfurt Book Fair in October. The organizers announced on Thursday that Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier would also come to the opening on October 18. Spain is guest of honor at the 74th Frankfurt Book Fair.
After “two very difficult years”, the book fair will again take place “largely physically” this year, announced book fair director Juergen Boos. Because of the pandemic, parts of the fair could only be held online in the previous two years. There were strict requirements at the exhibition center due to Corona. There are no official requirements this year, said Boos.
Without Russian publishers
Russian publishers will not be there this year: Because of the organizers’ proximity to the Putin regime, there will be no joint stand, said Boos.
The book fair expects 4000 exhibitors from around 85 countries. 70 countries are represented with national stands. The number of registrations from trade visitors is “almost at the level of 2019,” said Boos. In the last year before the pandemic, more than 300,000 people visited the book fair.
