The heavy rains that hit Rio Grande do Sul raised the level of the Guaíba River even further. In the early hours of this Saturday (May 4, 2024), the river reached the mark of 4.96 meters, according to the Integrated Service Coordination Center of Porto Alegre City Hall. And the highest level in its history.
At X (formerly Twitter), the center indicated that the measurement was carried out on site by the Civil Defense of Porto Alegre.
The number of people killed has risen to 56 due to the historic rains that have hit Rio Grande do Sul since Sunday (April 28, 2024). The data was updated at 9am and is in report card released this Saturday (May 4) by the State Civil Defense.

The area of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul where the Guaíba River crosses has flood protection systems, such as dikes and walls. On Friday (May 3), the state governor, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), said that they would be “put to the test at this critical moment”.
On Friday morning (May 3), the Guaíba River invaded the streets and bus station of Porto Alegre on Friday morning (May 3).
