The Federal Government’s Chamber of Exceptional Rules for Hydroenergy Management (Creg) met this Friday (15) and assessed that the exceptional measures that have been adopted to avoid rationing are still necessary for the coming months. Yesterday (14), President Jair Bolsonaro stated that he would determine to the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) the reduction of the water scarcity tariff flag, the highest level of extra charge on the electricity bill..
“As recorded to the members of Creg, the results presented show the assertiveness of the surveys carried out, as well as the importance of the exceptional measures in progress, despite the associated costs, the result of efforts made especially with a view to increasing energy availability and relevant hydraulic flexibility in hydroelectric plants,” the ministry said in a statement.
Established in June of this year by provisional measure, Creg is made up of the Ministries of Mines and Energy; of the Economy; of Infrastructure; Agriculture, Livestock and Supply; the Environment; and Regional Development. The main attribution of the collegiate is to adopt emergency measures and to guarantee the continuity and security of the electric energy supply in the country.
During the meeting, the increase in rainfall in the country was pointed out, especially in the southern region, a characteristic that points, according to the folder, to the transition to the typically humid period. In addition, rainfall is expected to occur in greater volumes in the Southeast/Midwest regions in the short term.
However, according to the government, despite the increase in rainfall, “the situation still requires attention, a fact also impacted by the current conditions of the soil, which is quite dry, and, therefore, greater difficulties in transforming rainfall into flows, that is, into volumes of water arriving in the country’s reservoirs”.
Based on the results presented, Creg decided to maintain hydraulic flexibility at the Jupiá and Porto Primavera hydroelectric plants in the next wet season, between November/2021 and February/2022, accepting suggested referrals from the Electric Sector Monitoring Committee (CMSE) . These measures serve to reduce the flow of reservoirs at the plants to avoid their lowering.
