Departure from Busca and arrival in Peveragno, in the province of Cuneo, for this fifth stage with arrival expected in the sprint. Gelders, the Belgian of the Bingoal-WB Development team, won ahead of the Lombard Sergio Meris (Colpack Ballan), second, and the Dane Simon Dalby (Uno-X Dare), third. Englishman Leo Hayter (UCI Continental Development Team DSM) retains the pink jersey of leader of the general classification.

Tomorrow the sixth stage, from Boves to Colle Fauniera, with its 2480 meters of the summit. In Campomolino the road climbs with double-digit slopes and numerous hairpin bends in dense vegetation. Ramps with more than 15% incline and the classic series of switchbacks will force climbers to come out into the open. Upon arrival, on the left, the statue of Marco Pantani dominates the scene.
