Sara Hector tries again. Second yesterday behind Mikaela Shiffrin, the Swede leads the first heat of the giant from Courchevel, recovery of the Killington race which had been postponed due to bad weather.
Hector – who won only one World Cup race, the Innsbruk giant in 2011 – was the best in 1’06 ”71 on an arrhythmic track that put several athletes in difficulty. Tessa Worley chases her at 11 cents, then Shiffrin again, at 34 cents, and Marta Bassino is very close there. The blue, fresh from the outings in Soelden and yesterday, was the protagonist of a risk-free test and is 38 cents from Hector. Behind her, Vlhova, at 59/100, and Michelle Gisin, at 81/100. Seventh place for Federica Brignone, at 93/100. Nothing to do for Sofia Goggia, who like yesterday went out. Elena Curtoni was also out, slipping into a left-hand bend in the upper part of the track. The other Italians did not qualify at the start: Melesi 36th (at 4 ”14), Ghisalberti 42nd (at 4” 80), Insam 47th at 6 ”27. Ghisalberti is out.
The second heat is scheduled at 1pm.
