A spokesman for the German Army Operations Command announced the transfer of more soldiers to Mali to reinforce the United Nations mission there.
This came in response from the spokesman to a question in this regard, as he indicated that the plane carrying the soldiers landed in Mali on Thursday.
It is expected that the infantry soldiers will participate later in protecting the airport in the city of “Gau”, where the majority of the German force participating in the “MINUSMA” mission of the United Nations is stationed.
MINUSMA’s mission, which aims to stabilize the West African country, includes about 13,000 soldiers and about 2,000 police.
The German parliament had set the maximum number of soldiers participating in the international mission at 1,400 soldiers.
According to statements by the Malian government, the airport in Gao is currently operated by a Malian administration, as is the case with the airport in the capital, Bamako.
In response to a question from the German news agency (dpa), the government of Mali said on Tuesday evening that the Air Navigation Safety Agency in Africa (ASECNA) has once again become responsible for air navigation security in Gao after the withdrawal of the French “Barkhane” mission. to combat terrorism.
The Malian government added that it was in talks with the MINUSMA mission to agree on the future operation of the airport in Gao.
