Gas, Russia eliminates supplies to Italy
Gazprom has suspended gas supplies to Italy starting today. This was announced by Eni, stating that the Russian energy giant “has announced that it cannot confirm the delivery of the volumes of gas required for today”. According to the Italian company, the cause is the “declared impossibility of transporting gas through Austria”.
“Today, therefore, the flows of Russian gas destined for Eni through the Tarvisio entry point will be zero”, he said in a statement. Eniwhich has promised to provide updates in the event of “possible resumption” of supplies.
“We are working to verify with Gazprom if it is possible to reactivate the flows to Italy,” said an Eni spokesperson, explaining how the Russian company motivated the suspension. “According to its communications, it would not be able to fulfill the obligations necessary to obtain the gas dispatching service in Austria where it should deliver it,” he told Ansa. “However, we understand that Austria is continuing to receive gas at the delivery point at the Slovakia / Austria border”.
In recent months, gas supplies from Russia had fallen below 10 percent of the total, in response to the invasion of Ukraine launched on 24 February.
