For the second time in less than a decade, the G7 Leaders Summit is being held at Elmau Palace, which meets the highest standards, is located near the Austrian border in one of the most beautiful regions of the Alps, and its remote location makes it an ideal place for those seeking tranquility.
And Germany, which holds the rotating presidency of the group, announced the attendance of 5 guest countries for the summit, namely Argentina, India, Indonesia, South Africa and Senegal, representing the continents of the world.
According to analysts, the G7 summit talks will focus on the Ukraine war, Russian sanctions, climate protection, combating the pandemic and the current food crisis, in addition to strengthening international cooperation and democracies around the world.
The abbreviation G7 stands for 7 countries: Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Japan, Canada and the United States, and in the period between 1998 and 2014, Russia was also a member, and during this period the group was called the G8, and because of the annexation of Crimea by Moscow, Russia was excluded from this grouping.
5 main axes
Academic and political analyst Arthur Lydekberg said that the main file will be the Ukrainian crisis and its repercussions, especially on the issues of food and energy and the feasibility of sanctions against Russia, in addition to the climate file, and the strengthening of international cooperation and democracies around the world.
“The G7 is the only multilateral and transregional forum that is still able to deal with the war in Ukraine, so the summit is of particular importance this year, and also as an alliance of the most important donor countries to Kiev,” Lydekberg told Sky News Arabia.
He pointed out that “the war in Ukraine, the Corona pandemic and climate changes have exacerbated the global economic situation, as food prices are on the rise. Ukraine and Russia are the largest exporters of wheat in the world, and they usually cover about a third of global demand, so we see the extent to which hunger in the world is linked to war in Ukraine”.
He explained, “Gas prices are rising at a very fast pace, so the world has turned to reviving coal-fired power plants again. This makes the G7 a good place to take courageous decisions about more climate protection, because it can, and because these decisions have global repercussions.”
And participate in securing the G7 summit 7,000 German federal police, to make this the largest security mission in Bavaria in years, and according to Munich police, a monitoring unit was established in the city of Grisen to prepare for the summit, and travelers had to expect random checks along the German border with neighbouring countries.
