The measure is part of the TAC (Conduct Adjustment Term) signed with the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro
O MPRJ (Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro) signed on Thursday (May 2, 2024) a TAC (Conduct Adjustment Term) with the Cinemark so that specific seats for obese people are installed in all cinemas in the chain to comply with the terms of the federal decree 9,404 of 2018.
According to the document, the network will have 180 days to complete the installation of the seats.
It was a representation formulated by Association Together for an Inclusive Worldtogether with the MPRJ General Ombudsman system, which reported the irregularity relating to the lack of seats available in the chain’s cinemas, contrary to current legislation.
The decree also determines that theaters, cinemas, auditoriums, stadiums, sports halls, concert and conference venues and the like must have free spaces reserved for people in wheelchairs and seats for people with disabilities or reduced mobility, in accordance with with the capacity of the building.
Seats must be installed and marked in accordance with the requirements established in the technical accessibility standards of ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards).
