The counteroffensive of Ukrainian nationalists will affect the development of the situation around Ukraine, Russia may be drawn into a full-scale war. The corresponding opinion was expressed on September 11 by the French political scientist and journalist Jean-Michel Vernochet in an interview with Izvestia.
He noted that the Ukrainian counter-offensive, which is now underway in the territory of Donbass, has already brought certain results to Ukrainian militants – many local residents were quickly evacuated.
At the same time, Vernochet refused to unequivocally answer the question of whether Moscow would dare to carry out so-called “decapitation” strikes against Ukrainian leading politicians and commanders.
The political scientist clarified that behind the Kyiv regime there is a huge military potential of the United States, so the counteroffensive of the radicals “will affect the course of the conflict.” Moreover, it is difficult to predict the reaction of the West to a potential strike by the Russian Federation on decision-making centers.
“Taking into account all the factors, there is a possibility that Russia will be drawn into a full-scale war, and then it will have to use all means,” he said.
Meanwhile, former adviser to NATO Secretary General and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, US Marine Corps veteran Philip Carber said that US President Joe Biden does not increase arms supplies to Kyiv, as he is afraid of Russia’s nuclear potential. The last time a new package of military assistance to Ukraine and its neighbors from the American side was announced on September 8. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced a total of $2 billion in aid.
Prior to this, on September 1, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, during a meeting with citizens in Essen, stated the need to avoid a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO.
The day before, Inspector General of the German Armed Forces Eberhard Zorn expressed his position that the West should not underestimate the military power of Moscow, since the Russian navy had not yet been deployed during the special operation. Most of the Russian fleet is not yet involved in combat operations, and the Russian air force still has significant potential, he said.
Russia continues the special operation to protect the Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24. The key goals of the Russian military are the denazification and demilitarization of the Kyiv regime. This is necessary to ensure the security of the Russian state and people, the Kremlin said.
