Advances on December 19th
The first episode of the new season of Freedom – Beyond the border starts from Las Vegas, in the United States, to investigate one of the most intriguing puzzles of mankind: is it possible to read minds? There are those who call it extrasensory perception, some telepathy and others sixth sense … Is it therefore conceivable that minds are connected to each other? Is it possible to communicate without using words? Many have tried to study these phenomena, including with scientific experiments. Important academic institutions, such as Princeton University, have dedicated years of research to the subject and there are those who are convinced that man is truly able to see not only with his eyes. Giacobbo meets Gerry Mc Cambridge, The Mentalist, who has made a real art of his ability to read minds. In his 30-year career he has performed over 5,000 times and according to audiences and critics, his show is the most incredible of all Las Vegas shows.
Giacobbo and his team then descend into the Monteverde Quarries, under the heart of Rome. Walking through the majestic tuff rooms, located about 35 meters deep, the Freedom cameras reveal an underground lake, which hides unprecedented spaces, which can only be accessed by crawling in the mud. Among these, a recently discovered room, full of stalactites that have reached unthinkable lengths, compared to the common periods of formation, on average estimated in natural environments: 10 centimeters in just 50 years. An extraordinary Chamber of Time, where nature runs and time has gone faster. A place that, after the Freedom reportage, was closed forever.
The itinerary continues with a visit to a place that seems suspended in time, as if it were a fairytale castle: it is the Rocchetta Mattei, in the province of Bologna, which was built in 1850 by Count Cesare Mattei. Inside, medieval and oriental architectures come together for a unique spectacle that leaves you dazzled. The history of this place is linked to electro homeopathy, a particular practice discovered by Mattei, which seemed to heal people through the use of electrically charged medicines. What is true in the letters of your many patients who said they were healed? And how much, was it actually suggestion? Freedom shows the earl’s rooms and, with special permits, gets to where no one can go.
Giacobbo also begins a real journey into the secrets of the mind by talking about the Syndrome of Christmas, a little considered aspect of the upcoming holidays, which instead concerns more people than imagined: between reflections on the meaning of the gift and on the various personalities of those who are prepares to give gifts, explains how the Christmas atmosphere affects everyone, but in a way that can also be very, very different.
Finally, the other novelty of the series: the story of some of the many museums, which deserve attention, small often hidden treasures that exist in the area and beyond. The debut is marked by the Roman casket called Diorama, which houses objects from the most distant places on the planet. A veritable chamber of wonders which, as happened in the 16th century, made it possible to see objects that would otherwise be unobtainable up close. Freedom – Beyond the border awaits you on Italy 1 today, Sunday 19 December 2021, at 9.20 pm.
