A new type of fraud has appeared on the Internet – the attackers began to extort money under the guise of helping victims during a special operation in Ukraine. About this “Izvestia” was told in the company Eset.
According to the company, dozens of fraudulent domains have already been detected, and their number continues to grow. In addition to the word “Ukraine”, the names of individual cities may appear in the names of phishing sites with a call to help their residents.
The number of lone scammers calling for help on social networks is much larger, it is not possible to count them, a company representative noted.
Roskomnadzor told Izvestia that the agency does not recommend that Russian users provide their personal data to dubious organizations on unfamiliar resources. Including on phishing sites that will offer payments or collect money to help refugees and victims.
According to Igor Bederov, head of the information and analytical research department at T.Hunter, communication with fraudulent “charities” is fraught not only with the loss of money. Through their sites, malware can enter the computer to steal passwords or, for example, to mine cryptocurrencies, he warned.
Another argument in favor of refusing rash donations is that assistance to a foreign state, an international or foreign organization or their representatives, if their activities are directed against the security of the Russian Federation, can be qualified as treason.
Art. 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation provides for up to 20 years in prison for this crime, adds Alexei Gavrishev, managing partner of the law firm AVG Legal.
