Former Red Bull and Williams development program member Dan Ticktum will take the vacant seat left by Tom Blomqvist after the Swede decided to embark on a new IMSA venture with Meyer Shank Racing.
He will have the opportunity to try the NIO 333 001 for the first time on the occasion of the pre-season test which will take place in Valencia on November 29-December 2, but he will have to stop after the second day to leave for Saudi Arabia, where he will have to compete in the penultimate round of Formula 2.
Adam Carroll, who will continue to play the reserve also next season, will therefore take to the track in his place on 2 December, the last day of the test.
“I am very happy to be racing with the NIO 333 Formula E team,” said the 22-year-old. “It will be a great challenge, because I didn’t have much time to prepare for next week’s test, and Formula E is complicated, but it will be very exciting.”
“There are quite a few different tools you can use as a driver, but it’s a totally different experience than Formula 2, so I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been a couple of days at Silverstone with the team this week and hopefully we can try to make some progress together. “
Ticktum is currently fourth in the Formula 2 standings, 49 points behind the leader Oscar Piastri when there are only two Middle East appointments left.
The two-time Macau Grand Prix winner had previously stated that he was looking for an opportunity in IndyCar, Formula E and DTM for 2022, after admitting he squandered his opportunities to reach Formula 1.
The possibility of a jump to IndyCar with Carlin, his current team in F2, seemed to be a very serious option. However, the announcement made today by NIO 333 put an end to this suggestion, given that the concomitances would make it absolutely impossible for him to race in both categories.
“We warmly welcome Daniel Ticktum as a new member of the NIO 333 Formula E family,” said NIO CEO Vincent Wang. “His results that impress me most are his two victories in the Macau Grand Prix, one of the most famous races in the world.”
“Even though he has faced some difficulties during his career, I believe his experience will pave the way to success. He is a new star, young and bright, who will shine on the Formula E tracks,” he concluded.
