Formula 1 | The drivers’ favorite track threatens to drop from the F1 calendar: “I think it’s a great track”

Las Vegas will definitely be included in next season’s calendar.

Belgium Spa’s track threatens to drop from the 2023 season’s formula 1 calendar, says Autosport on its website. The reason is that Liberty Media, the owner of the series, wants to take even more games outside of Europe.

Next season, Las Vegas will surely be a new place in the competition program, and the series plans also include a competition in South Africa. The plans would make room for the French and Belgian GPs.

When drivers are asked their favorite tracks, Spa is often mentioned. For example Kimi Raikkonen said in 2015 to Motorsport In his opinion, Spa is the best track in the world. Also the reigning world champion Max Verstappen expressed his concern to Autosport about the plans to drop the race from the calendar.

Verstappen’s canceling the competition would be a great shame. He remembers, for example, the fast corners of the track.

“I think it’s a great track for an F1 car or any car to be honest,” said Verstappen.

Ferrari too Carlos Sainz hopes that Spa will continue to compete, at least in some years.

“I think there are a lot of new places that will pay a lot of money to be part of Formula 1. In a business mind, it’s hard to say no to that,” Sainz reflected.

“I just hope that even if Vegas, South Africa or whatever comes, we can still go back to France or Spa every now and then and enjoy tracks like that.”
