The court sentenced Igor Fruman, one of the partners of the former lawyer of former US President Donald Trump, Rudolph Giuliani, to one year and one day in prison. He was accused of participating in a conspiracy to attract foreign funds to finance the election campaigns of Republican politicians, including Trump himself. The prosecution suggested appointing a period of 37 to 46 months. Judge Paul Otken appointed not so long term, which was originally requested by the prosecution.
Fruman, 55, will also pay a $10,000 fine.
He is due to appear on March 15 to serve his prison term.
In September 2021, Fruman pleaded partially guilty to raising foreign money. According to him, he asked the Russian businessman Andrey Muravyov to allocate money for the campaigns of Republican politicians.
In October, the jury found the Ukrainian oligarch Lev Parnas, also involved in the crime, guilty of the same crime.

According to journalists, the footage allegedly contains associates of Trump’s lawyer Rudolph Giuliani – Ukrainian oligarchs Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, who were suspected of influencing the US election campaign.
In 2019, the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York indicted four American businessmen who were Giuliani’s partners. Lev Parnas, Igor Fruman, Andrei Kukushkin and David Correia were accused of violating laws that prohibit the attraction of foreign funds to finance election campaigns in the United States. In addition, they allegedly acted as figureheads in lobbying campaigns. Parnassus and Fruman are also suspected of trying to force Marie Yovanovitch’s resignation from the post of US ambassador to Kiev in the interests of a certain Ukrainian official.
On October 11, federal prosecutors in New York opened an investigation against Giuliani. According to The New York Times, he is suspected of violating lobbying laws. The investigation concerns the activities of a lawyer in Ukraine and allegedly his attempts to achieve the resignation of Yovanovitch in this country. Investigators plan to determine whether he violated laws to prevent foreign influence on political processes in the United States.
In the fall, an investigation began in the United States to impeach Trump. Democrats accuse the politician of putting pressure on Ukraine to discredit his potential rival in the 2020 presidential election from the Democrats, former US Vice President Joe Biden.
