The United States House of Representatives committee investigating the storming of the Capitol early this year has subpoenaed six former associates of former President Donald Trump. The committee has announced on Monday. Michael Flynn, briefly Trump’s national security adviser, William Stepien, manager of Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign, and Jason Miller, the campaign’s adviser, have been asked to make statements.
In a statement, Bennie Thompson, chair of the committee, said Trump’s closest associates are partly responsible for the storming because of a “campaign full of misinformation”. He said the commission “needs to know every detail about their efforts to reverse the election, including who they spoke to in the White House and in Congress, what connections they had with rallies that escalated into a riot, and who did all of this.” paid”.
The Democrat-led commission wants the subpoenaed to sit down for a statement between Nov. 30 and Dec. 13. It is not certain whether they will actually appear. Last month, several close associates of ex-President Trump, including ideologue Steve Bannon, were also subpoenaed. Bannon announced through his lawyer that he would not appear. The commission of inquiry said it wanted to prosecute Bannon for “contempt of Congress” when he did not show up.
